State Convention

July 22-24, 2016

“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also” (John 14:3).

A. J. Tomlinson said, “There is only one class of people that can get to heaven. This class is known as the righteous. Jesus makes this clear in His teachings… of who can go there and who cannot.”

Prayer after prayer, scripture after scripture, song after song, and message after message complemented our theme of “Heaven” at this year’s Alabama State Convention. The worship was sincere and the moving of the Lord was powerful among us. It is evident that the Lord wants us to long, above all else, for spiritual things and for our people to meet the biblical and spiritual conditions that will lead to eternity in heaven. Our guest speaker, Brother Dustin Hays, was a great blessing to us. I understand that this was the first bilingual convention in Alabama since the reorganization. We appreciate Brother Luís Bañuelos and Sister Liz Denard for helping with the Spanish interpretation. Sister Janet Talley was also a blessing, as well as all of those who served on program. Everyone did a wonderful job. “Heaven came down and glory filled our souls” throughout this Convention and so many commented on the unity there and the great liberty we felt in worshipping the Lord. We were glad to see so many young people, zealous and sincere, marching for God—65 VLBs and Gleaners in all. We enjoyed seeing some old-time manifestations of the Holy Ghost there and appreciate all who attended. Our registration was 223 this year and offerings received throughout the Convention totaled $4,564.45.

As the song says, “I want to stroll over heaven with you some glad day, when all our troubles and heartaches are vanished away; then we’ll enjoy the beauty where all things are new, I want to stroll over heaven with you.” Our time is short. Let us work for the Lord with all our hearts and purpose to enjoy eternity with Him and all the redeemed of the Lord. Let’s work to take as many along with us as we can on this journey, reach perfection, and go “home.” “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him” (1 Cor. 2:9).

Family Camp

July 2-6, 2016

Praise the Lord for a good Family Camp this year! Please visit the Family Camp page for a short report and pictures.

Youth Convention

May 6-7, 2016

Praise the Lord for a blessed Youth Convention this year! Our theme matched the General VLB Theme, “Through the Gates,” and our guest speaker was Harvey Anders of Tennessee. Brother Anders was a great blessing to the Convention and we’re thankful for his willingness to come and minister to our young people.

In addition to Brother Anders, we also heard messages from several of our young people: Tarin Puckett, Brandon Keel, Amy Anders, and State VLB Coordinator Trevor O’Dell, all of which were a wonderful blessing. We are thankful for all from Alabama who put forth the effort to attend, as well as several out-of-state visitors. It was a blessing to have each one of them.

A special blessing to the Convention this year was the inclusion of a VLB Choir, organized and directed by Amy Anders. They sang beautifully, but more beautiful was the good spirit of worship that accompanied them.

Special thanks to Brother Trevor for his efforts this first year as State VLB Coordinator, including directing the Convention.

Statewide Revival, Part 2

March 28-April 8, 2016

Sister Shelton was able to visit 8 of our churches in the month of January and was a wonderful blessing everywhere she went. She and her family returned in March-April to visit the remaining 8 churches in Alabama to conclude our Statewide Revival! We thank the Lord for the wonderful spirit of worship, the anointed singing and preaching, and the blessed times of prayer experienced in the state during this special time. The local churches at Bayou La Batre, Phenix City, Goodwater, Anniston, Collinsville, Geraldine, and West Lawrence were blessed to host this second and final installment of the Revival. Sister Shelton was a true blessing everywhere she went and we pray God will continue to bless her, her ministry, and her family. Special thanks to the state of Alabama for the generous giving, support, and love given to the Shelton family.

New Field Tent Revival

March 21-26, 2016

Sister Mary Shelton brought her tent and her family to minister in Eclectic, Alabama, in hopes of reaching some new contacts for The Church of God in an event organized by the Goodwater church. The revival was a great blessing to all of our Church folks who were able to take part, as well as the visitors who attended. The speakers broadcasted the preaching and singing to all in the nearby community and there were many who never entered the tent but stopped outside to listen. We pray that many souls were touched and that seeds were planted that will come to fruition in the weeks and months to come.

Men’s Retreat

March 11-13, 2016
