Statewide Revival

May 14-20, 2017

Thank the Lord for another wonderful Statewide Revival! We’re thankful for each and every service held across the state of Alabama this May. There was anointed singing and preaching and wonderful times of prayer in the altar.

A special thank you to Sister Mary Shelton and family for coming to minister once again. She is always such a blessing and we are grateful for all the sacrifices made and the miles they travel for the Lord and His Church. God bless them all!

District #1 Convention

February 25, 2017

The Convention for District #1 was conducted in Moulton with the theme, “The Fields Are White for Harvest.” District Overseer Guye Sutton had prepared a wonderful program and we were blessed by several good messages: “The Fields Are White, but the Laborers Are Few” by Aaron Muse, Sr.; “Sit We Here Til We Die?” by Dustin Warren; and a message by State Overseer James Horne. This Convention was bilingual and we were thrilled to have our Spanish brothers and sisters from Athens with us. Special thanks to Liz Denard for her help interpreting for this Convention.

State Evangelism Day

May 20, 2017

May 20, 2017 will forever be a precious memory of The Church of God in Alabama; one more to add to my collection. As the State Evangelism Coordinator, I and all who were present sat in a heavenly place together as we assembled at The Church of God in Athens. Upon arrival, as I entered the sanctuary, I noticed on the wall a banner made by the Athens Church that displayed this year’s Evangelism theme “Burn Fire Burn.” This was a wonderful way for the Athens church to show their love for Evangelism. The spirit of the Lord was present from the opening until the closing of the meeting. I am humbled at how the members were such willing workers together. Sister Glenda Membreño and Sister Liz Denard were fantastic with interpreting the bilingual part of the service. The singers were all wonderful and blessed us with heavenly hymns that filled our souls. The ministry was awesome as was every message, beginning with the very first one delivered by Brother David Membreño, pastor of the Athens church. As each minister followed, every sermon connected from one to the other, even to the last delivered by Brother Billy Allen. I humbly and gracefully appreciate all who were so willing to serve. Brother Cook moderated the service. Brother Jerry and Sister Betsy Cox so faithfully filled in for those who were unable to attend. Sister Mary Shelton and her family finished the State Revival with us. Her message was soul-stirring and was a tremendous blessing. Sister Horne had a great fun time but, sad to report, the ladies lost. Do not fear, the men of the church were winners by a lot of points.  Thank you all for attending—we had a total attendance of 71! Thank you, Athens church, for hosting and feeding us!

New Field Coordinator & State Evangelism Coordinator,

Jerry & Lynda Cook

BTI Workshop

April 8, 2017

A BTI Workshop was conducted in Bessemer by State BTI Coordinator Billy Allen using the General BTI Theme, “Into His Presence.” The topic “Into His Presence: Eternal Punishment for the Wicked” was presented by Steve Ridlespurge; “Into His Presence: Eternal Life for the Righteous” by Josh Anders; and “Out of Zion, the Perfection of Beauty, God Hath Shined” by Billy Allen. Jerry Cox also spoke with great inspiration on our topic. At the conclusion of the workshop, an auction was conducted to raise funds for the Ministerial Training Fund which helps delegates from the state of Alabama attend Bible Training Institute in Cleveland, Tennessee.

District #2 Convention

February 4, 2017

The theme for the District #2 Convention was, “O Magnify the Lord.” District Overseer Jeremy Wallace moderated the convention and the program included boost by our auxiliary leaders as well as messages by Alan Carr: “Paul Planted, Apollos Watered; but God Gave the Increase”, Jerry Cook: “He Must Increase, but I Must Decrease”, Jason Wright: “My Soul Doth Magnify the Lord”; and Betty Bishop: “Who Are We Getting Ready For?” We also heard from State Overseer James Horne who spoke to the convention from his heart. Thank the Lord for the spirit of the Lord that was present with us.

District #3 Convention

January 14, 2017

The theme for the District #3 Convention was, “Helps & Governments: Part of the Beauty of The Church of God.” District Overseer Jerry Cox began the Convention by displaying a puzzle, each piece of which represented an auxiliary or help of the Church. As each leader came forward to present their boost throughout the Convention, they would put their piece of the puzzle in place, illustrating that, just as each piece must be in place in order for the entire picture to be seen, each arm of the Church must be performing its designed purpose in order for The Church of God to be seen in its fullness.

Along with the auxiliary boosts, there were messages by Sam Kaufman, James Horne, Rick Flippo, Ted Cogburn, and Chris Cogburn. There was also a special surprise presentation to Sister Deborah Blackwood, honoring her father who recently passed away.

There was a sweet spirit working in the Convention and we thank the Lord for His blessings there and all of the good instruction that was given to help us better understand, appreciate, and work the tools He has given us to work with in The Church of God.
