New Church Set In Order

Athens, Alabama – January 23, 2016

We are thrilled to announce that The Church of God has been set in order in Athens, Alabama! A special service was held there on January 23, 2016, to dedicate the building they’ve worked hard to prepare for services, receive three new members in to the Church, set a lay minister forth, and have a baby dedication. Special thanks to Brother Carlos Hernandez, Idaho, and Brother Luis Banuelos, Georgia, for all of their efforts and assistance in ministering to and preparing the saints there to join themselves to God’s Church. Also, special things to Sister Liz Anders who has been instrumental in interpreting and keeping in touch with them, as well as all of our members who have supported the services in Athens. This new Spanish church will be a wonderful blessing to the state of Alabama and we look forward to working, fellowshipping, and worshipping with these dear saints as we all pull together in God’s Church!

District #2 Convention

Collinsville, Alabama – January 16, 2016

The Anniston, Collinsville, Geraldine, Lebanon and Somerville churches gathered for their District Convention on Saturday, January 16, at the local church in Collinsville. District Overseer Jeremy Wallace had selected the theme, “Committed.” All five pastors from District #2 preached messages as the Convention:

Betty Bishop – “In All Things, We Can Trust Him”

Alan Carr – “He Is Able to Keep What I Have Committed unto Him”

Jerry Cook – “Will You Sincerely Promise…”

Jason Wright – “The Gospel was Committed into Our Trust”

Jeremy Wallace – “Woven, Not Sewn”

Brother Horne preached a message about the unfaithful prophet from 1 Kings 13. Thank the Lord for the rich Word of God and good instruction that was shared by all of the preachers! In addition to the messages, the auxiliary boosts were a blessing, as always. God bless District #2 as they labor for the Lord!

ABM Workshop

Bessemer, Alabama – December 5, 2015

State ABM Coordinator, Amy Anders, put together a wonderful day of training at our recent ABM Workshop. The day included a class by our pastors taught by James Horne, a class for our pastors’ wives taught by Rebekah Horne, and a class taught to the membership by Amy Anders. Brother O’Dell was on program to preach a message entitled, “That There Be No Schism In the Body” and Sister O’Dell helped us with a team-building exercise. We enjoyed lunch and fellowship in the back, then returned for a two-part class taught by Josh & Britney Anders entitled, “These Things Ought Not So To Be.” Brother Josh’s portion focused on the third chapter of James and admonished the listeners to be careful with their words. Sister Britney’s portion focused on Social Media and the need to be cautious about the dangers of misusing it. Thank the Lord for the wonderful instruction received during this time.

Ministers’ Convention

Bessemer, Alabama – October 2-3, 2015

This year’s Ministers’ Convention had a different format than usual and it seemed to be enjoyed by all. On Friday night, we had an outdoor service held around a fire, directed by Brother Dustin Warren who delivered a devotion on our theme “Iron Sharpeneth Iron.” Afterward, hot dogs and hamburgers were served and several toasted marshmallows around the fire. The next day we had one message on the theme by Brother Brian O’Dell, followed by several individualized classes:

We had lunch in the fellowship hall, followed by some Fall Fun Time! That afternoon we sang some songs and received some good instructions direction from our State Overseer.
